Suffice to say, I think that even if standalone copies of Reaper of Souls are included in this equation, that shouldn’t disqualify Diablo 3 from the list. That’s an even more grey area in my opinion. If price doesn’t matter there, why should it matter if Reaper of Souls is $40, not $60? And furthermore, if we’re getting into the nitty gritty of what “counts,” it’s always been a little murky that Wii Sports gets to claim these unparalleled sales when it was bundled with practically every Wii sold.
Reaper of Souls was a $40 piece of content at launch, which by itself would put it over the price of other games in the top ten like a mobile port of Tetris, or a copy of Minecraft on any platform which almost never costs more than $25. The assumption here is that the 30M is also counting something like standalone Reaper of Souls sales, which somehow don’t “count.” I’ve reached out to Blizzard to confirm this, but I’m going to guess it’s true (Update: it is). So has its expansion, Reaper of Souls, and the two have combined for an “ Ultimate Evil” edition that includes both. Diablo 3 has been released of PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
